On Point: Volume 5

on point

This week brings us lots of Drupal news and Star Wars Toys. That’s how we roll, yo.

In this week’s issue:

Weekly Wrap Up

We’ve been super busy this week! BeYou. was all about the Drupal, we had a blog post that focused on the partnership between designers and developers, and Drew presented at Drupal Nights in Cambridge yesterday. That is a heaping helping of awesome, right there.

Drupal 8.1.0 was released on Wednesday

Drupal 8.1.0 has some great new features include CKEditor, WYSIWYG enhancements, added APIs, an improved help page, and two new experimental modules (experimental modules are provided with Drupal core for testing purposes, but are not yet fully supported.) You can read more about it and download it here.

Speaking of Drupal 8.1.0 …

In a very nice blog post, Dries Buytaert took the time to talk about the importance of the people who maintain Drupal.

Star Wars Toys, Part One

Um, I’m pretty sure that we need all of these. Because reasons.

Trash vs Recycling

Ever wonder why Apple users have trash cans and everyone else … doesn’t? Find out. (Bōwst loves trivia!)

Android phones are now safer!

Google says that they have made headway in keeping Android users from harmful malware. Enjoy that, Android users.

How to Secure Drupal

The good folks at Pantheon have published a blog series about website security. The latest installment is about how to secure Drupal and includes links to the previous posts. It does mention that Drupal 6 is NO LONGER receiving security updates, but also offers suggestions for coverage for Drupal 6 users, as well as diving into how to make sure Drupal 7 and 8 sites are secure.

Star Wars Toys, Part Two

If you’re old enough to have been alive when the original Star Wars Movies came out (and if you’re not, PLEASE DON’T EVER MENTION IT TO ME), and you have some of these kicking around? You, my friend, could be sitting on a world of riches.

Drupal 8 Module of the Week: Coffee

Coffee helps users to navigate by keyboard in Drupal. Check it out here.

How much did a computer cost (and what did the technology look like) the year you were born?

Find out in this slideshow! (MORE trivia? Yes, please!)

Star Wars Toys, Part Three

Build-A-Bear plus Star Wars equals “TAKE MY MONEY!” (True story — I once made myself something at a Build-a-Bear and claimed it was for my nephew. At the time, I didn’t have a nephew. I MAY be inspired to do this again because — did you SEE  the Chewbacca?)
